Buena Park School District Unveils New Mission, Vision Statements

Buena Park School District is announcing new mission and vision statements that celebrate new college partnerships, facilities and technology efforts designed to ensure students are superbly prepared for high school, college and careers.

The mission statement, approved by the Board of Education on April 22, states:

Buena Park School District inspires and ignites all students to pursue high achievement; empowering them to follow their passions.

The District’s vision contains seven strategies for achieving this mission:

We ignite the passion for learning by:

  • Ensuring we have highly-trained, talented and dedicated educators/staff
  • Providing ambitious and innovative curriculum and instruction
  • Establishing cutting-edge technology and facilities
  • Cultivating nurturing and safe environments
  • Valuing the strength of our cultural diversity
  • Partnering with our families and community
  • Guiding students to lead and impact the world

Both statements were created as part of the District’s overall goal of raising the bar for educating students, providing outreach to the community and staying on the cutting-edge of technology to enhance learning.

“Our new vision and mission statements perfectly communicate our purpose to help our students succeed,” Buena Park School District Board of Education President Irene Castaneda said. “Our District strives to ensure the best for our students. Now, our vision and mission statements reflect that commitment.”

The District’s improvements include a forthcoming partnership between Pendleton School and Chapman University and USC to provide students with academic and financial support to ensure they are ready and able to attend college through a mathematics, engineering, science achievement (MESA) program. The MESA organization aims to assist underrepresented groups to achieve science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees to become future leaders in their industry.

The District has also updated its facilities and technology offerings, including the recently built science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) lab at Beatty Elementary School, security upgrades, safer playground equipment and 1-1 iPad ratio for all first through eighth grade students. The District also has plans to build a band/choir/drama hall at Buena Park Junior High School to advance interests in performing arts.

“Updating our mission and vision statements shows we’re continuously working to reach new heights of excellence,” Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes said. “This is an exciting time for our District because these new statements signal all the new ways we are working to improve opportunities for our students.”
